2022 Conference
2022 - A successful first Leading Through Inclusion Conference!

SACID held our first conference, Leading Through Inclusion, on 9 - 10 June 2022 at Stamford Grand, Glenelg.

Community Bridging Services were one of the sponsors for the event.
- We had over 128 people join the conference.

- SACID staff and volunteers
- Guest speakers
- We had 4 Keynote speakers over the 2 days:
- - Catherine McAlpine, CEO of Inclusion Australia
- - Gavin Burner, Self-advocate
- - Stephen Sheehan on behalf of Rachel High, Self-advocate
- - Samantha Taylor on behalf of Tracy Mackey, NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner
- We ran 7 workshops and information sessions at the conference. They were:
- 1. My Life My Choices, Supported Decision Making moves
- 2. Intellectual Disability and Inclusive Practice
- 3. Future Proofing for families
- 4. Planning for a good life
- 5. Co-design
- 6. Staying Safe
- 4. Strong Mind
- We ran 4 come and try activities. They were:
- 1. Active Mindfulness with InterPlay
- 2. Craft-er-noon
- 3. Drama with True Ability
- 4. Pickleball with One Culture
- At the start of the conference we put out a Call to Action for the audience to tell us what they want for the future of inclusion for people with intellectual disability.
- By the end of the conference people told us they want:
- Fairer wages for people with intellectual disability.
- More employment opportunities in mainstream employment.
- More funding in the arts for people with disability.
- A safer community.
- Access to information in a way that is understandable.
- NDIS needs to be better.
- Give people with disability a voice and listen to them.
- Better advocacy.
- More opportunity to speak up.
- To be able to go to more conferences like Leading through inclusion.
- More people with disability working in the Government.
