If you are a parent or direct support worker involved in the life of someone with a disability who has a reputation for being difficult, self-injurious, assaultive, withdrawn, or “non-compliant”, this workshop will provide a relationship-based alternative to the more traditional behavioral approaches. The core ideas for this approach are drawn from Person Centered Planning, Gentle Teaching and Social Role Valorization with at least of few from Yeiter’s school of hard knocks.

This introductory workshop will provide a combination of lecture and group exercises along with stories and video clips that demonstrate the points being made. The workshop is intended to at least give participants some practical framework for working/thinking through difficult issues of behavior. The book in and of itself provides not only the core ideas but many excellent resources for advancing your practice.
